Funerals
Telling the story…celebrating the life

I see myself as a story teller, conducting and writing Funeral Services and Remembrance Ceremonies for families and individuals who want to pay thanks, celebrate and honour the life of their loved ones, in a respectful and memorable way.
I spend time with the family or friends, face to face, at a convenient time to talk through their ideas and hear about the person who has died. I listen to their stories, be it funny or sad, their quirks, their hobbies, their experiences and learn about the family culture. I respect that it is sometimes difficult for people to express how they feel about the person and allow a couple of hours, so people feel relaxed and have time to remember anecdotes. I then write a bespoke service and send for approval before the ceremony. A final version is sent with any contributions from friends and family, to keep as a memento. I can advise on music, hymns or poetry (sometimes bespoke poetry), Eulogies and the Order of Service.
It is important to honour the industry code of conduct, to deliver a professional service and work alongside the Funeral professionals as part of a reliable team. I liaise with Funeral Directors to ensure the day runs smoothly and make it as positive an experience it can be.
I am familiar with crematorium and graveside procedures.

Taking part in the service

Speaking at a funeral can be terrifying for many, as grief can affect their ability to communicate. Having someone read on your behalf is a helpful alternative. For others reading can be very healing and comforting for them. Children may want to read a poem, story, or sing a song, and it can be a great comfort to them to be involved. I am open to suggestions and will try and incorporate ideas where possible and allocate time in the service for contributions. I also act as a backstop, ready to stand in if needed.
A service is generally 30-40 mins, depending on the venue, so it is essential to ensure contributions are planned where possible and that people are aware of time. I can liaise with all contributors to ensure the service does not overrun.

Am I the celebrant for you?

Finding the right celebrant who makes you feel at ease, who you can trust on the day is really important. If you want to have a brief chat to get a feel for who I am and how I work, please do call me. You can then make an informed choice. I am open to discussion and can suggest other celebrants if I am not available; as well as recommend funeral directors I work with.
If you live overseas or a long distance away I can carry out a telephone consultation or Skype call as an alternative to a face to face meeting. This would be by appointment.

"I have known Lisa for six years as a Celebrant, taking funeral services for many of our families. She has always taken the services with the greatest of respect to both the deceased and the family and on many occasions has been asked to take services for the same family again and by people who had attended as mourners."
